More than 600 Houstonians donned in “blue jeans and blue” gathered at The Tilman Fertitta Family Residence for the 16th annual Houston Police Foundation True Blue Fundraiser. This sold-out event, held in November, was a record-breaking year for the Foundation, raising $1.1M for the new firearms training facility that will offer 25 shooting lanes to help train our local police officers.
Upon arrival to this year’s “Salsa: A Fiesta Fantastico” themed evening, guests were greeted by strolling mariachi bands and ample premium bars featuring tequila towers and top-shelf margaritas. Guests participated in live training elements with several of Houston Police Department’s elite units, including live taser demonstrations with targets, shooting arcade with SWAT, K-9 training with “Nate” and demonstrations from Bomb Squad, DWI Task Force, Missing Persons Unit, and more. Throughout the evening, HPD’s robotic K-9, “SPOT”, roamed the event, taking pictures with attendees.
Houston’s community influencers and social leaders enjoyed boundless food stations from Landry’s, Inc. concepts’ top chefs, including The Post Oak Hotel, McCormick & Schmick’s, Cadillac Bar, La Griglia, Willie G’s, The Palm, and Saltgrass Steak House.
The legendary event concluded with a bang, literally. A phenomenal 15-minute fireworks finale illuminated the sky, marking a successful evening benefiting the Houston Police Foundation and honoring the Department’s dedication to the community.
This annual event is a key annual fundraiser for The Houston Police Foundation, a nonprofit formed by local business leaders to support projects of the Houston Police Department. Donations made by individuals and companies fund special programs, officer safety, training, equipment, and new technology- none of which would be feasible under the City budget. Approximately 96% of HPD's annual budget goes to pay officers and other department personnel.
